During the war against the Royalists, it became apparent that disorganized local militias would not be enough to topple the enemy forces. The Columbian Congress signed an act that would form a proffesional, unified army. Dressed armed twith their army issue muskets and dressed their in snazzy (relatively) uniforms, soldiers could march into battle with newfound national pride.

Alas, sometimes national pride isn't always enough to keep men fielded. Soldiers would still payment higher than their militia counterparts, even in times when the Congress was cashstrapped and losing the war. After the war was over, there was much debate over whether to dissolve the national army, seeing as threat had ended. But the federal government won out and the permanent army was established, to provide a persistant show of force to all threats within or without.

Special Notes: The leadership of this unit enables adjacent units of the same side to deal more damage in combat, though this only applies to units of lower level.
